Further Curriculum Information

Beyond the Curriculum, Co-op Academy North Manchester offers a wide range of opportunities for your children to supplement and enrich their education.

Extracurricular Activities

School is about much more than learning the curriculum.  It’s where pupils find their spark, meet new people, and discover talents they didn't know they had. At Co-op Academy North Manchester, we place a rich extracurricular offer and life-changing experiences right at the heart of our academy.

We encourage every pupil to take part in at least one extracurricular activity.

For further information, visit our extracurricular page here.

‘Leaders plan an extensive range of extracurricular activities and clubs for pupils. These comprehensively cater for pupils’ wider academic, cultural, artistic and sporting interests. These activities also include events which open their eyes to the world in which they live and the difference that they can make in it.'

Ofsted 2019

We run many clubs every day before school, at lunchtime and after school. If your child has an interest, there's probably a club for it. From singing in the choir, enjoying sporting activities, or studying with friends in the History Club, there's an opportunity for everyone to go beyond the curriculum. Pupils have the opportunity to meet guest speakers, go on trips, and experience unique workshops. Each pupil is provided an extracurricular booklet at the start of the academic year.

The homework hub is also open every day after school, where a range of resources are available to support learning and allow pupils to work with their friends.

The academy has been successful across a wide range of different competitions, including sport and other areas such as Debate Mate and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) competitions.

Every year the academy showcases its music, dance and drama clubs through various performances which the local community, primary schools and families are invited to watch. We do hope that we get to see you at one of these events.

Here's what our pupils think about their favourite clubs:

“We enjoy basketball because it’s healthy and benefits your body.  We especially love the teamwork involved.”

“It’s really enjoyable and interesting and we learn something new every week.”

Pastoral Support

All of our staff are committed to giving their very best to our pupils. We know how important positive relationships between staff and pupils are in order for them to work together to achieve their best.

Pupils’ behaviour, safety and welfare are supported through dedicated Heads of Year and Associate Heads of Year.

Along with the form tutor, the Heads of Year are the main contact point for parents/carers.

Progress and Attainment

Heads of Departments are responsible for the progress and attainment of pupils within their subjects. They work closely with both the Leadership Team and the Heads of Year to make sure all pupils stay on track to success.

Learning Support

This is available for all those who need it, and we work on a pupil by pupil basis. We have a Learning Support team who work with our SEND and English as an Additional Language (EAL) pupils. They're led by the Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENDCo). Academic mentors are available to support with interventions and homework support and Higher Level Teaching Assistants also offer extra support to learning programmes designed to help pupils’ literacy and numeracy skills.

Attendance and Safeguarding

We have two Attendance Officers and Safeguarding Officers. They work with our pupils and support families to make sure they attend school every day and feel safe doing so. Posters are displayed around the Academy which explain to our pupils, staff and any visitors, who these important people are.

Support for Pupils with English as an Additional Language (EAL)

EAL applies to anyone who doesn’t have English as their first language.

We have both staff and pupils in our Academy community that have English as an Additional Language (EAL) and we value the diversity that this brings. Many pupils have the opportunity to take a qualification in their first language.

We understand that sometimes pupils need more support with their language skills. We have specialist EAL Teaching Assistants who provide an extensive range of one-to-one, small group and in-class support during lessons, lunchtimes and each evening after school. We make sure every pupil has what they need to succeed.

If we think a pupil would benefit from having some extra support from our EAL department, we will always discuss this with you. If you think your child needs EAL support, please contact us by:
