Frequently Asked Questions
Will my child get to pick their registration group?
At Co-op Academy North Manchester we want to ensure the transition from primary to secondary school is as smooth as possible for each pupil. Whilst pupils don't get to choose their registration group, we use the information supplied by the primary school to place them in a registration group.
What if my child doesn't know anyone in their registration group?
We ensure that every pupil is in a registration group with someone they went to primary school with so that there is a familiar face on the first morning. Pupils will be in different classes for some subjects and meeting new people every day in those first few weeks. Before long, these new pupils will become friends. If a pupil is attending from a primary school and none of their peers are coming to Co-op Academy North Manchester, we will be sure to put them in a registration group with a pupil in a similar situation.
Does my child need their PE Kit on the first day?
No, pupils do not need to bring their PE kit on the first day of term. On this day, they will receive their timetable outlining their lessons. From the second day onwards, they will follow their full timetable and should bring their PE kit when required for scheduled lessons.
What equipment will my child need for school?
Pupils will need:
- A bag suitable for carrying their A4 exercise books
- A pencil case containing pens, pencils, a ruler, an eraser
- A refillable water bottle
- A suitable coat to wear during the colder months
How much lunch money will my child need?
At Co-op Academy North Manchester we run a cashless catering service that means that pupils do not need to bring their lunch money to school. Parents and carers must upload money onto a pupil’s account. This can be done via the Arbor Parent Portal/App. Registration information for Arbor will come out to parents/carers in July before pupils start at the academy in September. This will give parents/carers the chance to top up before pupils start in September.
How do I apply for free school meals?
It is very important that we know who is entitled to Free School Meals, not only so that we can provide your child with a lunch free of charge, but also because we receive additional funding which we use to support your child to lead a happy and successful life.
Your child may have been eligible for free school meals during their time at primary. However, this eligibility would have come to an end as they left primary school. Therefore, parents and carers must reapply for free school meals.
Full details on how to apply can be found via the link below.
What time does school start?
The academy is open from 8am each morning. Pupils can access our free breakfast club in the main canteen 8:00am to 8:25am. A 5-minute movement bell will sound at 8:30am and pupils must arrive at their form room for 8:35am.
Travelling to school
The academy has two dedicated school bus services, the 715 and the 722, operated by Travel for Greater Manchester. Please click the link below to view the current timetable.
All young people using the school bus or pupil transport will need to apply for an igo card. This allows young people aged 11-16 to travel using child tickets on buses and trams in greater Manchester. Pupils will need to apply for an igo card by visiting an Information and Ticket Office or by post.
Some pupils may be eligible for a free school bus pass. Applications need to be made with your local council.
