Free School Meals

We believe every child deserves the energy they need to learn, grow, and thrive. At Co-op Academy North Manchester, we are committed to ensuring every student has access to a fresh, nutritious meal every day. Every child should have the energy to learn and grow. We’re here to ensure every child in our academy has access to nutritious meals so they can thrive in and out of the classroom.

Food is about more than fuel. When you register for Free School Meals, it unlocks additional funding for our academy. We use these extra resources to provide even more support, equipment, and opportunities for your child to lead a happy, successful life.

What’s the Criteria for Free School Meals?

  • Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods);
  • Income Support;
  • Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance;
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance;
  • Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999;
  • The guarantee element of Pension Credit;
  • Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190);
  • Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit.

The Impact of Universal Credit

In the past, Manchester City Council have told us which pupils are entitled to free school meals based on their records of who receives benefits such as housing benefit and council tax support.

They stopped doing this on11th June 2018. The introduction of Universal Credit means that people will no longer claim these benefits in the same way.

All applications must now be completed online.
