Pupils Shine at Manchester Metropolitan University Creative Writing Showcase

A group of our pupils recently visited Manchester Metropolitan University to take part in an inspiring day of creative writing and editing workshops. The trip formed part of the First Story project, a national programme that empowers young people through creative writing and storytelling.
Throughout the day, they honed their writing skills and crafted powerful, original poems which they later performed during a special showcase event attended by pupils from six other schools across the North West.
As part of the experience, the pupils also had the exciting opportunity to meet acclaimed author Danielle Jawando, best known for her novel When Our Worlds Collided. During a lively Q&A session, they asked Danielle questions about her school experiences, her journey as a writer, and the process behind her storytelling.
All pupils were also given the chance to choose a book of their choice from a special £1 book sale, funded by the academy. Those who selected When Our Worlds Collided were especially lucky, as they received a signed copy from Danielle herself, a truly memorable souvenir from an inspiring day.
Miss Mondhlani, English teacher, said: “It was incredibly inspiring to see our pupils so engaged and confident in expressing themselves through poetry. Experiences like this ignite a real passion for writing and show our pupils just how powerful their voices can be.”
