Animal Aid Delivers Inspiring Workshops on Animal Welfare at the Academy

This week, pupils at the academy took part in thought-provoking and educational sessions led by Animal Aid, one of the UK’s leading animal protection charities. The organisation visited on Wednesday and Thursday to deliver inspiring workshops on animal welfare, humane farming, and youth-led campaigning.

The sessions offered pupils a powerful insight into modern farming practices and encouraged them to think critically about the ethical and environmental impact of everyday choices. Pupils explored how small actions—like the food they buy—can contribute to a more compassionate world.

Discussions about activism and advocacy were a highlight, with pupils discovering practical ways to campaign for positive change in their communities.

“It was a really good session that made me think about how we look after and care for animals. I’m going to try my best to be more mindful about the meat products I buy.” – Alex, Year 9

“It really shocked me seeing the pictures and videos of the conditions animals live in. We had some good discussions to get ready for our projects in Personal Development.” – Year 9 pupil

These workshops are linked directly to current topics in both the Personal Development and Religious Studies curriculum. In Personal Development, pupils work in teams to design animal rights advocacy campaigns, using tools like petitions and lobbying. Through this, they build key Citizenship and employability skills, including leadership, teamwork, and time management.

The visit sparked meaningful conversations across the school and empowered pupils to reflect on how their voices and choices can lead to real life action.
