Year 7 Pupils Inspired at Lancashire Science Festival

Our Year 7 pupils recently enjoyed an exciting and inspiring day at the Lancashire Science Festival, a vibrant celebration of all things STEM.
The day began with a high-energy chemistry lecture, “Amazing Chemistry!”, where university pupils and lecturers wowed the audience with spectacular demonstrations. From glow-in-the-dark solutions and fiery reactions to dry ice explosions and the classic elephant toothpaste experiment, the session was a true crowd-pleaser.
Pupils then took part in a range of interactive physics activities. Using Virtual Reality headsets, they experienced VR in space and tested their skills in a Lunar Lander simulation, learning to manage fuel and orientation to land safely on the moon. Other highlights included a Mars-themed physical challenge, experimenting with a Van de Graaff generator, and exploring the latest in science tech.
A particularly thought-provoking moment came during the Ghosts in the Machines interactive lecture. Pupils used special equipment to detect hidden signals in the environment, exploring how science allows us to understand the invisible forces that shape our world.
“We loved the Chemistry show - especially the fire reactions and the dry ice explosions. It made us want to try out the experiments ourselves!”
“I loved the VR - it felt like I was actually in space! The experiments were amazing too, especially the ones with explosions and colours.”
“It was fascinating and so different from anything we usually do”
It was a fantastic day of discovery, hands-on learning, and excitement, one that left our pupils truly inspired by the possibilities of science and technology.
